The Best Days to Avoid Pregnancy: Menstrual Cycle and Fertility Timing

Women trying to get pregnant have many questions to consider about their pregnancy. While some women are happy about their pregnancy, for others it is a matter of dread. Women start getting stressed due to a lack of complete information about pregnancy. During this time, most women are interested to know how many days before and after the period the pregnancy occurs. Before this, you need to know the menstrual cycle and ovulation process. This article describes pregnancy in detail.

What is ovulation?

Ovulation is the release of a mature egg from the ovary, a process that occurs every month. During this time, a woman is more likely to get pregnant.

Generally, a woman's menstrual cycle is 28 to 35 days, and ovulation occurs only on certain days of this cycle. Generally, the 12th to 16th day after the end of a woman's period is called the Ovulation period.

When does ovulation occur?

Women have about 2 million eggs in their ovaries at birth, and about 50,000 at puberty, when they start menstruating. During the first half of the menstrual cycle, the egg develops and gradually matures. A few days after the end of the period, the female body produces the hormone estrogen, which helps to thicken the lining of the uterus, which becomes a favorable environment for sperm.

Gradually, there is an increase in estrogen and this causes an increase in another hormone, luteinizing hormone (LH). The LH surge causes the egg to be released from the ovary and the woman ovulates (24 to 36 hours after the LH surge). During this time, if the egg receives a sperm and the sperm succeeds in fertilizing the egg, the woman becomes pregnant. If the egg is not fertilized, it attaches to the lining of the uterus and is expelled from the woman's body during her period. This process takes place every month.

From the first day of the period to the first day of the next month is called the cycle. As mentioned earlier, your chances of conceiving are highest during ovulation. At this time, the eggs produced in the women's body are released from their ovaries. This process usually takes place 12 to 14 days before the start of the next period.

How many days before the period and how many days after the period does not get pregnant?

Five days before the ovulation process, the egg is most likely to become pregnant by the time it is released. But a week before the start of the period and up to six days after the period, chances of conception are less than on other days.

An egg lives for about 24 hours after it is released from your ovary, and sperm can only stay inside the body for up to five days. This means that you can only get pregnant if you have intercourse during this time.

After that, if no sperm fertilizes the egg, it will die. After that, you cannot get pregnant until your cycle starts again.

If a woman's menstrual cycle is very short (eg 19 to 22 days), pregnancy can occur any time after intercourse. Usually, pregnancy does not occur immediately after the period. At this point, you should remember that sperm can stay safe in a woman's body for about 7 days after intercourse. In such a situation, if a woman's menstrual cycle becomes shorter and the process of ovulation starts early, then the chances of getting pregnant increase.
