Doctor Explains Why Losing Weight Can Improve Your Chances of Conception

Lack of fertility power can be a big problem in couples trying to conceive. There can be many reasons behind a person's low fertility or fertility power. One such reason for low fertility is excess body weight, which people do not notice quickly or which people ignore.

According to doctors, people's fertility can decrease due to not maintaining a healthy weight. As a doctor, it has been my experience that if people's body weight is high, then it can also cause problems in fertility, while low body weight can also hinder efforts to conceive.

How body weight affects fertility:

Our body works hard continuously to balance the level of hormones and maintain fertility. When body weight is maintained at a healthy level, it also keeps the hormone levels balanced. But, if the body weight is too low or too high, it can also cause changes in the hormone levels. Women in particular may face problems like hormonal imbalance, irregular periods, and ovulation-related problems. On the other hand, men may face the problem of low sperm count due to unhealthy weight.

How obesity affects fertility:

According to Doctors, excess body weight can cause hormonal imbalances. This can increase insulin and estrogen levels and due to this, such problems can occur-

The problem of irregular periods:

High insulin levels in the body can affect the process of ovulation. Obesity can also cause PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), which is a major cause of infertility these days.

Poor egg quality:

Oxidative stress can increase due to fat accumulation in the body, which damages egg cells. This reduces egg quality and can reduce fertility.

Risk of miscarriage:

Obesity also increases the risk of abortion or miscarriage. Obesity can also reduce the chances of successful pregnancy in methods like IVF.

Underweight people also have fertility problems:

Like obesity, low body weight also reduces fertility power and you may face problems in conceiving. Low body weight can cause such problems -

Problem of irregular periods or periods not coming on time:

Fluctuations in hormonal levels
Risk of preterm birth
Low birth weight in the baby

What should be done for a healthy weight before conceiving?

Exercise daily:

Whether it is weight loss or weight gain, find out the right kind of workout for both. Exercise as per the advice of your trainer and doctor.

Diet:

Understanding the needs of your body, make a healthy and balanced diet plan and include those foods in your diet which help in keeping the weight balanced.

Control stress:

Mental stress has a direct impact on your physical health and fertility. The fertility of people living under stress can decrease. In such a situation, adopt the right measures to control stress.
