If you smell gas, turn off the gas cylinder and remove matches, lighters, and other flammable materials around the gas. Also, if anything is burning like candles and incense, put it out.
Never touch an electrical switch when you smell gas. Neither on nor off. Because at this time, if any switch sparks, there is a possibility of fire due to gas.
Open all doors and windows in the house in case of a gas leak. This will expel the gas and reduce the chance of an accident.
What to do if a cylinder catches fire:
If the cylinder is on fire due to a gas leak, wrap a cotton sheet, blanket, or large towel soaked in water around the cylinder. It will put out the fire. If you have a fire extinguisher at home, you can also use it.
When there is a gas leak, most people feel that gas is leaking from the cylinder. But it doesn't have to be like this every time. Sometimes gas leaks can be due to regulators and gas pipes. So check the regulator and pipes from time to time. If the pipe is even slightly frayed, replace it immediately.
