What is Ectopic Pregnancy? Causes, Symptoms, and Risks Explained
In Ectopic Pregnancy, the baby starts growing in the fallopian tube, these are the early symptoms of ectopic pregnancy.
When an egg and sperm meet in the fallopian tube and travel to the uterus to form an embryo, then a woman becomes pregnant. But when a woman's egg and a man's sperm fertilize in the fallopian tube and remain here, then in this case the woman also becomes pregnant but this is called ectopic pregnancy.
What is Ectopic Pregnancy?
In this, the fertilized egg is so weak that it cannot reach the uterus and begins to grow by attaching itself to nearby organs such as the fallopian tube, abdominal cavity, or cervix. This condition often results in miscarriage. When the doctor does not see a normal blood test result or does not see a fetus on an ultrasound, then an ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed by performing a transvaginal ultrasound (Vaginal Ultrasonography).
In this test, a wand-like instrument is inserted into the woman's fallopian tube to examine the uterus. If an ectopic pregnancy is not detected in time, the fallopian tube can rupture and the woman may even die.
Who is at higher risk for ectopic pregnancy?
Up to 90 percent of ectopic pregnancies result in miscarriage. Because where the egg is fertilized (fallopian tube, abdominal cavity, or cervix), there is not enough space for the embryo to grow. As a result, a miscarriage may occur or the woman may lose some of her organs.
Women who have pelvic inflammatory disease, who have had abdominal surgery, or who have had an ectopic pregnancy in the past may be at risk of developing an ectopic pregnancy.
Symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy:
Light bleeding from the vagina
Pelvic pain
Dizziness
Severe pain on one side of the abdomen
Shoulder or neck pain
Vomiting or unusual pain in the abdomen
Can I be a mother again after an ectopic pregnancy?
Many women worry that they will be able to become mothers again after an ectopic pregnancy. Let me tell you that it is completely possible. Every woman has two fallopian tubes in her body. If for some reason one of your fallopian tubes is damaged after an operation, then the woman can become a mother again in the future with the help of the second fallopian tube.
