Hidden Dangers in Cake: Cancer-Causing Particles in Bakery Cakes
Almost everyone likes to eat cake. Be it a birthday or any other occasion, people celebrate by cutting cakes. But this cake can cause a lot of damage to your body. Eating it can make you prone to cancer. This is clear from a recent test on bakery cakes. Cakes have been found to contain cancer-causing particles. After which the Karnataka Food Safety and Quality Department has alerted the people.
Cake Ingredients Linked to Cancer
Artificial colours such as red velvet and black forest are added to make the cake beautiful. This cake was tested recently. Of these, 12 different cancer-causing substances have been found. These include artificial colours like Allura Red, Sunset Yellow FCF, Ponceau 4R, tartrazine, and carmoisine.
Food dyes like rhodamine-B have been found to have many harmful effects on health. This has already been researched. It was also found in some cakes during cake sample testing. Researchers say rhodamine-B is used to dye clothes. It is used as a food colouring. Eating food with this colour can lead to many serious diseases.
Similarly, Ponceau 4R added to cake can increase hyperactivity in children and cause oxidative stress in the body. This is clear from the research conducted by the Food Standards Agency of Great Britain. Health experts say that everyone should be aware of food products. This will not only increase the risk of cancer but also cause physical and mental health problems, the report said.
Health experts have already warned about the use of artificial colours in food products. In March this year, the Karnataka government took a major decision to ban food colours used in cotton candy. The Karnataka Health Department has banned the use of rhodamine-B in cotton candy and cabbage Manchurian, citing it as dangerous. Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that strict action will be taken under the Food Safety Act against those who use this harmful substance.
